More from Producer Kevin Burns on the new His Lament E.P.!
"Sitting on these mixes carved a permanent groove in my head. Just like I told you... The more you listen, the better you like! It's so subtle, yet so in your face. So mysterious, yet so matter of fact. Damn Nick, those whispers aren't only subliminal, they're unforgettable! I'm really proud to have produced this ...project for you. Kudos to everyone involved!"

What does Kevin say about the new His Lament material? Find out -
"Finishing up the HIS LAMENT EP today. Gotta say, I'm nicely surprised! Kudos to Erick Feinnnnnberg, Danny Butterball, & Matt Bernstein for lending to this project. When the album drops, you'll all be immortalized in time. An absolutely unique concept album. Runs the gamut from world, to rock, to 70's punk, with the slightest hint of carribean spice. It's dark, it's exciting, and it's introspective, and I love it!"
"68 degrees. Perfect football weather! Listening to HIS LAMENT's new CD, and it sounds just amazing! It's gonna be a great day!"

Our Biggest Musical Influences?
Matt (Guitar, Keys)
"I was a wee child listening to Iron Maiden, the Offspring and Sponge. Getting into my own taste I grew off of Limp Bizkit, Korn; the whole Nu Metal/Nu Rock thing, but then i learned to appreciate guitar and picked up on that and then eventually learned to appreciate music as a whole and all the instruments used to orchestrate. ."
Nick (Vocals,Guitar)
"Linkin Park was the reason i decided to start writing and playing my own songs back in the summer of 2001, i still love the Hybrid Theory album to this day. AFI is surely my biggest inspiration musically, Jade Puget packs the power of 3 guitars and is the only guitar player in the band and is a great craftsman. I have a huge love & appreciation for Paramore, Hayley Williams is just a great frontwoman and performer, some try to aquire it and she just has it. I absolutely love bands like Set Your Goals, No Doubt, 30 Seconds To Mars, P.O.D., As I Lay Dying, Tegan & Sara, Eyes Set To Kill & Escape The Fate. Being from Jamaica, i have a great love for the classic reggae artists like Toots & Barrington Levy, they pack power too...just in a different vibe. When people ask who His Lament sounds like, i really never answer fully....that's a tough one. I think that's a result of our widely opened ears and hearts. I love artists from many different genres, music is music and is meant to inspire and enjoy"

Behind "Eleven Days Of Rain" - "First off, this E.P. is a concept E.P. It tells the story of a man and his experiences from birth all the way to his death bed. Eleven Days Of Rain displays a dreary image but really stands as a body embracing of negative surroundings. It's about making the best of the things around you to impact yourself and others in a postive manner"

-“Running Through London Rain” –
Lyrics By : Nicholas Nagrani
Music By : Matthew Makowski, Nicholas Nagrani
Band : His Lament (2010)
As I feel I cannot breathe,
As the dark has taken over me,
This has become so unreal
The blackened days in the midst ahead,
Seems like these thoughts have left me here for dead,
And I’m gone in a flash
And as I hold it together
(Wo-oh-oh, Wo-oh-oh)
Please stay forever
(Wo-oh-oh, Wo-oh-oh)
I won’t be torn apart by this world and its antics,
It’s but a façade, so overdramatic
As I feel I cannot breathe,
As the dark has taken me underneath,
Don’t turn away,
I’ve got something to prove,
Open your eyes,
We’ve got nothing to lose
And as I hold it together
(Wo-oh-oh, Wo-oh-oh)
Please stay forever
(Wo-oh-oh, Wo-oh-oh)
I won’t be torn apart by this world and its antics,
It’s but a façade, so overdramatic
Let’s run away,
Won’t leave a trace,
Lets run away,
A far cry from this place

Interview with His Lament guitarist/keyboardist Matthew Makowski - By: Farahnaz Mohammed
A very special thanks to Farahnaz Mohammed for conducting this interview!
The man and the band we all know and love relocated to sunny Florida to get bigger, better and louder than ever. And on March 20, 2010, we all heard that he'd done just that when HisLament welcomed Matt Makowski to the group. Until now, however, Mr. Makowski has remained mostly unknown to HisLament fans. Today, I get the opportunity to shed some light on this mysterious Matt and ask him about his music, his influences and if he's been infected with Bieber fever.
Of course, the most basic first. Where are you from? What's your instrument/s? How long have you been playing it/them? What is your opinion of Justin Bieber?
Matt: I am originally from Detroit, Michigan. I lived there for 12 years, moved a bit west where it was safer and more fit for a person of my age and influence then to Florida where i have resided for 3 years now. My weapon of choice is the electric guitar! I was in middle school band and wanted to do drums, i was told no by both parents and teacher, so i said "ok, guitar then," but that was also a negative. Eventually, my dad got me a cheap guitar to mess with and i never really picked up the guitar with sincere determination until i was about 19.
I didn't know Justin Boober existed until a couple weeks ago when he was featured on the cover of 'People' magazine and i just made fun of his face.
How did you get involved with the HisLament project?
Matt: I was growing tired of the band I was in, I originally wanted a project with someone who shared my ideals and i could not find these in the characteristics of the people i was already playing with. It began with a simple prayer and a trip to the mall where i saw the ad with Nick's interesting photo on it. I thought "oh another jamaican" But after talking with him on the phone right away i knew i'd like him. After having a preliminary meeting of the sort; I turned out to be right on with my instincts that he was an awesome guy and we would work together well. We share the same ideals and I feel as if my prayer was answered so I decided to stick to it.
Who are your major influences?
Matt: My major influences are of great range musically. I began making techno/trance music at 15 because of ATB, Tiesto, Oakenfold, etc... but to the power of the guitar and musical arrangement my biggest influences were Mike Patton and John Petrucci/Satriani/ and also Paul Gilbert. OH and last but not least, Dave Mustaine. Right now I have been listening to a lot of metal/Metalcore like Sylosis, Becoming the Archetype and A Day to Remember. I've always loved Deftones as well.
If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Matt: I have thought about this many times. I think it keeps changing, but after cooking homemade teriyaki chicken stirfry with pineapple/vegetables/mushrooms the other day, i think i can live with that and Green tea. Pomegranate is my favorite fruit so if i was stuck on an island I would hope for a pomegranate tree.
Why did you want to become a musician? What kind of message do you hope to send with your music?
Matt: I wanted to become a musician to kill time, but then i slowly developed a passion for it. I say slowly because I never knew what i really wanted until I hit my niche. I didn't find it, i hit it. So, I wanted to be like... famous? But then i became a christian and my mindset changed so I wanted to ultimately play for Him. Not necessarily a worship band, but the message definitely i wanted to be /for/ God not against God.
What influence do you feel you've had on HisLament's sound? Where's the common ground between you and Nick? What do you think your biggest differences are?
Matt:I guess asking others that have heard the differences to better answer that in more detail. It is hard for me to objectively observe my own playing let alone in comparison with what was and is for HL. I definitely developed my own playing style and mixing that personality with Nick really went well. I guess you can say i brought it more "out of the box"? Not sure... heavier too also. I like to live on the heavy side but also keep it passionate, melodic and cheerful--much like A Day to Remember and Killswitch Engage.
Our *common* ground? There is already a lot and more to discover! I feel awesome to be joined with Nick! As for differences? I think a few musical interests, but they are very minimal i.e. Lady Gaga *cough*.
What are your hopes and goals for HisLament?
Matt: My hopes and goals can not be put out with specifics, only determination. I just know that whatever happens, it is for a reason and that we won't have anything in vain. I guess for now our biggest goal is to get everyone we need on board!

Debut Interview By : Farahnaz Mohammed
Interview with Nicholas Nagrani of His Lament
Interview by : Farahnaz Mohammed
Basic questions first - where are you from? What do you play? When and why did you get started? Who are your major influences?
Hey! First off, my name is Nick and i’m from Kingston, Jamaica. I am a lyricist, singer, guitarist, bassist and drummer. I started playing music when i was 13, so 7 years ago! I got started because i’ve always had a passion to create and play my own music and that passion is constantly growing and will never stop. I’m inspired by many artistes of different genres, growing up here in Jamaica has made appreciate reggae very much – Half Pint, Barrington Levy and ofcourse Bob Marley. However, I draw most of my inspiration from bands like AFI, Story Of The Year, Paramore, No Doubt, Escape The Fate, Lights, Rise Against, Linkin Park & 311, you get the idea. I also love electronic stuff!
Why the name 'HisLament'?
First off, the name was born in August of 2007. I always had the name in mind, even before i had any material recorded and at the time it didn’t have much significance to it, i just thought it sounded great and unique! The great thing is, with all the songs that i’ve written and recorded, the name has settled its way in perfectly with the overall content of my material and my entire artistic presentation.
How would you describe your music to people? What do you want your music to convey to listeners?
My music is very uplifting, lyrically & musically. I write very positive lyrics fueled by raging guitars and drumming. I have to add that at one moment where you would probably want to jump or scream (“Music Over Matter”) to one of the songs, you are going to want to dance (“Her Eyes Like Fire”). It’s a very eclectic mix of sounds that flow very naturally. Ultimately, I hope to heal people with my music; to help them in any way possible. As I mentioned before, my lyrics are positive ones but sometimes I observe the negative for a way of releasing those feelings and being at home with yourself; it’s how we grow, right? I want people have fun listening too!
What's been your biggest challenge in forming your band and creating your EP?
At this point, there aren’t many challenges considering His Lament consists of only myself at the moment. I mean, it’s been really beneficial because i play more than one instrument, I was forced to challenge myself in the studio. Creating the E.P. was a really informative experience for me, I learned a lot! For example, I would lay down a riff during one session and by the next session it’d be gone and pretty much the song took on a whole new direction. My creativity and vision for my art continuously widened because I started to discover more about my passion and the direction I wanted to take.
Where are you hoping to go with your band? At what point do you consider yourself to be 'successful'?
Good questions, I hope to make His Lament a four-piece band. At that point, start playing more shows and gaining a stronger and larger fan base. That’s my goal for the moment, the rest will play out. I already consider myself “successful”, why? Because I’m doing what I love and what I have wanted to do. There are many levels of success and I have achieved one thus far.
Would you rather be stuck on a deserted island with Paramore's Hayley or Hey Monday's Cassadee?
Hardest question so far! Both? Hayladee? Casley? You know, i’d rather be stuck there with anyone but a wild being who might attack me for my bamboo.
Favorite instrument?
Honestly, I don’t have a favorite, I’m able to express myself differently on each one, I love them all! When writing a song I usually pick up the guitar to serve as the foundation, it helps me to understand the many directions the song can take. That’s not always the case though because sometimes it begins with a bass line that I’m working with.
Green Day's Billie Joe or Kings of Leon's Caleb Followill?
I love both of these amazing artists and their respective bands so i’ll say the Jonas Brothers.
Why are you passionate about music? What makes you believe it’s worth devoting your life to?
I love composing, writing is a beautiful outlet; getting my words in melody and then creating the music complementing my lyrics is absolutely something that always amazes me. I love the fact that one can express his or herself in any artistic manner and become such an integral part of someone’s life, history and culture, be it on a large or small scale. I believe in this so much, it’s not something I want to do but it’s something I just have to do. I want to shine a brighter light on this genre. The drive to this has grown so much over the years. I’m an expressive person and I always have a message for people.
Do you think President Obama is sexy?
No, I’m more of a Palin type of guy.
